If we’re remodeling, cleaning or moving, we may want to dispense with some large items no longer needed or wanted. Instead of putting them on the curb, however, if they still have life in them, consider donating them to organizations that will make them available to others. Such items include working appliances, gently used furniture and cabinets, leftover and salvageable construction materials, and even old cars. By donating them, we can turn our waste stream into a resource stream. There may be tax deductions as well. A number of local organizations in the Metropolitan Washington area are not only willing to accept them but to pick them up too.
Where we can go:
- First check with a member of St. John’s Refugee Committee to see if it can be used. If not turn to:
- Community Forklift, located in Hyattsville, MD.
- Habitat for Humanity ReStores, with several locations in the Greater Metropolitan Area.
