October 9, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us for in-person worship at 7:45 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. On Sunday, October 9, the St. John’s Choir will offer J.S. Bach’s motet Singet dem Herrn ein neues lied (Sing to the Lord a new song) as part of our 11 a.m. worship service. Among the most ambitious of Bach’s motets, Singet dem Herrn is written for double choir in three movements. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was reportedly so deeply moved upon hearing the work on a visit to Leipzig in 1789 that he requested permission to see the music and proceeded to copy out the parts to take back to Vienna. The service will be preceded by a special Speaker Series at 10 a.m. led by music director Brent Erstad and members of the St. John’s Choir.
During the program year, which begins on September 11 and runs through early June, valet parking is available on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Look for the valet sign at the corner of Black Lives Matter Plaza (16th Street) and H Street, NW. For more information:
Children’s Chapel (11 a.m. worship):
We celebrate the return of Children’s Chapel during 11 a.m. worship. Most Sundays from early September through May 28, children from birth through grade 5 are invited to participate in a special liturgy just for them. Clergy and lay helpers will lead children in a song, homily, and prayer time in the Children’s Chapel space on the second floor of the Parish House. Children are invited to gather by the stairs in the front of the altar during the gradual hymn before the Gospel is read. They will return to the sanctuary during the Peace. Parents are welcome to accompany their children, and encouraged to do so for those younger than three. Children are always welcome to stay and worship in the sanctuary. For more information contact the Rev. Sarah Akes-Cardwell at:
