Speaker Series: Washington National Opera’s Cafritz Young Artists
March 12 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Members of Washington National Opera’s Cafritz Young Artists perform excerpts and speak about the long-awaited DC premiere of the opera Blue. Awarded “Best New Opera of 2020” by the Music Critics Association of North America, Blue is inspired by contemporary events and Black literature, including Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Between the World and Me and James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time. Written by Tony Award-winning composer Jeanine Tesory and librettist Tazwell Thompson, the show captures the grief of a community, the bonds of a family, and the vulnerabilities of protecting a child.
The event will be in the Togo West Parlor on the first floor of the Parish House.
