Jeremiah 18:1-11       Psalms 101; 109, 119:121-144 Romans 8:1-11     John 6:27-40

English Translation:
“The love of God is great and marvelous” these words come from a hymn I love to sing, but I must also qualify the words. I must say as well that the love of God is incomprehensible, because how can you understand love that motivates offering up your only son, that others might live? How do you understand dying to save others?
Really, I don’t understand it, but this is what confronts us in this verse: For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. (John 3:16) Here we see that the Father’s love reaches its height in the sacrifice of his Son Jesus. Love that began by accepting humanity, a humble birth and a humble life to later die on a cross, which was the most horrifying death of the time period. To die on a cross was a sentence reserved for the worst murderers, thieves, and foreigners. Add to this the pain, the suffering, the humiliation that Jesus suffered during his crucifixion. This should make us pause, and ask us to commit to a deeper relationship with God. It should also fill us with joy, to know that in our most profound pain and sadness, when we feel abandoned by the world, we remember that the Heavenly Father and Jesus are always with us. Together they are the strong rock that we can stand on to walk forward, because God is love.
