November 14, 2017
Dear Parishioners,
Following up on my October 24 letter, I would like to share several updates as we begin to move forward in the transition process.
To begin, the Vestry had a very informative and productive day-long retreat at Virginia Theological Seminary on November 4. We were joined by Rev. Canon Paula Clark of the Diocese of Washington, Canon for Clergy Development, Multicultural Ministries and Justice, who works with parishes in transition on all aspects of the process. The retreat focused on the transition process; specifically, the role of the Vestry during transition.
Moving forward, we will have a representative from the Diocese join us on Sunday, January 21 (between the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services) to talk about the transition process and answer questions. Please watch the weekly bulletin for an announcement.
One of the first steps in the transition process is the creation of the Search Committee. The Search Committee is comprised of parishioners, and it has one overall purpose: to help the congregation find the best rector candidates. As we look to establish this committee, the Vestry will be soliciting nominations from the congregation. Please be on the lookout for additional information on this next month.
In order to keep you updated as the transition and eventual search process moves forward, please know that, similar to Parish House renovation updates, a dedicated page has been created on our website. This page will have the most up-to-date information, and you are encouraged to bookmark it on your computer. Please also watch for updates in our weekly bulletins and our eNewsletter, The Word.
Finally, just to remind, the Vestry stands ready to be of assistance in any way we can. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, Richard or any other Vestry members directly during this time of transition.
Warmly,
Hilary West
Senior Warden
