Music has long been a core value of St. John’s. This legacy springs from the excellent leadership of organists and directors of music in our past and because the congregation consistently demonstrates a desire for fine music.
The St. John’s Choir, comprised of twelve professional singers, provides music for the worship of the parish. We are blessed to have some of the finest musicians in Washington in the choir. Their dedication to present music of quality enriches our worship services. The St. John’s Choir generally sings at the 11:00 a.m. Sunday service during the academic year.
The St. John’s Choir also presents several Festival Choral Eucharists with Orchestra per season at the 11:00 a.m. service.
The Parish Choir provides an opportunity for members of the parish and community to contribute their talents to the worship of St. John’s. Generally the Parish Choir provides music leadership at the 9:00 a.m. Sunday service during the academic year. This choir rehearses on Thursday evenings. Once per season, the Parish Choir joins the St. John’s Choir for a Festival Choral Eucharist with Orchestra. Music reading and choral experience are expected of members of the Parish Choir. New members are always welcome, and an audition may be scheduled by contacting the Director of Music Ministry.
The Summer Choir comprises people from the parish and community who enjoy singing but who cannot make a regular commitment to the Parish Choir, augmented by professionals from the St. John’s Choir and members of the Parish Choir. Members of the Summer Choir participate whenever they are in town during the summer months, rehearsing at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, then singing for the 10:30 a.m. service.
