Chorister Program

The St. John’s Chorister Program offers young singers in grades 5–12 an unparalleled opportunity for a free world-class musical education.

Choristers

Choristers become part of a vibrant community of singers as they join in mature, challenging, and rewarding music making. Through a custom-made curriculum, our singers receive training in sight reading, vocal production, music theory, liturgy, and leadership. In a supportive community, they build greater self-confidence and develop their skills of teamwork and collaboration.

Schedule

Choristers rehearse twice weekly on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30–6 pm. Dinner is provided after the rehearsals on Thursday, allowing time for fun and socializing. Choristers sing for Eucharist on the first and third Sunday of each month and for Choral Evensong on the last Wednesday of the month.

As part of their training, all choristers receive free one-on-one private voice lessons which normally take place during or around rehearsal times. Additional voice, piano, or organ lessons can be scheduled as desired.

Probationers

Younger singers will enter the program as probationers, rehearsing and learning with the other choristers, but not singing services until they graduate as full choristers. Probationers are only required to attend one rehearsal each week.

Auditions

Auditions are held year-round and may be arranged by contacting Brent Erstad, Director of Music. Youth with prior singing experience entering grades 5–12 are eligible to audition. We look forward to hearing from you!
