Baptisms
Through baptism, all Christians are initiated into the life of the Church and into the Body of Christ, sharing in his death and resurrection. Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s body, the church. Baptism is meant to be a public act in which the congregation welcomes the newly baptized into the community of faith. Each individual present makes or reaffirms their vows of the baptismal covenant. Candidates for baptism are sponsored by one or more baptized persons (p. 298, BCP).
Parents or grandparents of children being baptized must be active, pledging members of St. John’s. Adults interested in baptism for themselves should attend the Rector’s Inquirers Class and become active, pledging participants in the life of the parish.
